Master of Social Work Program

MSW Program Overview

The Master of Social Work (MSW) program at the 成人大片 (UNF) offers a dynamic and engaging educational experience that prepares students for advanced generalist social work practice. Grounded in a mission to foster biopsychosocial-economic and spiritual well-being, the 成人大片MSW program is founded on critical thinking, research, empowerment, and service, and is enriched through a variety of community partnerships. 

With small class sizes and dedicated faculty advisors, students receive individualized professional mentorship while participating in a curriculum that integrates experiential learning and research informed practice. The MSW program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) and provides the educational foundation required for licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Florida. Through internships, students develop the skills for multi-method clinical and administrative practice with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities, as they engage in practice activities that reflect the nine social work competencies required by the CSWE's (2022) Educational Policy & Accreditation Standards (EPAS). These structured, supervised field education experiences ensure that graduates are well-equipped to make a tangible impact in micro, mezzo, and macro practice in community-based settings and beyond.
While in pursuing their MSW degree at UNF, students will have the opportunity to:
  • Join the active, student-led 成人大片Social Work Club.
  • Attend the annual National Association of Social Workers Florida (NASW-FL) Legislation Education Day, a two day policy-based event for social work students in Tallahassee.
  • Engage with the 成人大片Social Work Student Advisory Council, a space for student representatives to collaborate on 成人大片Social Work Program initiatives with faculty.
  • Become eligible for membership in the Tau Lambda Chapter of the Phi Alpha Honor Society through high academic achievement.
  • Celebrate Social Work Month through an annual event that brings current students, faculty, alumni, and community partners together to celebrate the profession of social work.
  • Study abroad through the 成人大片International Center. 成人大片MSW students have recently engaged in study-abroad opportunities in Indonesia, Iceland, and the United Kingdom.
  • Present student-led research at the annual Sociology, Anthropology, and Social Work Student Research Symposium.
  • Collaborate with faculty as a Graduate Assistant.
The 成人大片MSW program offers both full-time and part-time options with exclusively afternoon and evening classes, making it possible to balance coursework with internships. This cohort-based program is predominantly delivered in-person, allowing students to engage in collaborative learning environments and build meaningful connections with faculty and peers.

MSW Program of Study 

The 成人大片MSW Program offers both Traditional and Advanced Standing tracks. The Traditional track is designed for students who do not have a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree. The Traditional Program of Study begins in the fall semester and may be completed full-time in two years or part-time in four years. The Advanced Standing track is designed for students who have a BSW degree and are academically prepared for accelerated graduate study. The Advanced Standing Program of Study begins during the summer semester and may be completed in one academic year. MSW courses are offered face-to-face on the 成人大片campus during the late afternoon and evening hours. MSW Field Education

Field education is the “signature pedagogy” of social work education. Traditional MSW students are required to complete 900 hours of field education, including 400 hours at the generalist practice level and 500 hours at the advanced generalist level. Advanced Standing students must complete 500 hours of field education at the advanced generalist level. More information about field policies and procedures may be found in the MSW Field Manual. Admission Requirements 

Students who wish to be admitted to the 成人大片MSW Program must complete an online application through the Graduate School; pay a $30 application fee; submit official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate coursework; submit a resume; provide three letters of recommendation; and submit a personal essay. Visit the Graduate School for application instructions, deadlines, and detailed requirements for both the Traditional and Advanced Standing tracks. 

MSW Program Assessment

The MSW Program utilizes multiple measures to assess the degree to which students master the core competencies of generalist and advanced generalist social work practice as well as the quality of the learning environment in which the program of study is delivered.
